PNBC’s 2022 Invitational Triples Challenge

The Club’s Invitational Triples Challenge with 16 teams concluded on Friday 11th February.

There were some changes to arrangements this year following a review of the 2021 event, including 8 colours for team shirts to differentiate teams and provide extra atmosphere and specially made scoreboards were introduced for spectators’ convenience.

Three Bowl Triples is fast paced action with points earned for touchers, closest bowl for the first two ends and points for the closest bowl (10), second (5) and third (3) at the conclusion of each end. Each game comprises 6 ends with teams responsible to progressively confirm score totals with the scorer.

Volunteer Scorers, Measurers and Umpires ensure games run smoothly and enables players to focus on their individual and team’s bowling. Spectators are entertained by high quality draw bowling and aggressive shot-making. With scores varying greatly over each of the six ends with regular exchanges of lead during matches. Every team plays two games on each of the five round robin nights and then the two top teams from the two divisions play semi-finals and a grand final to decide the winner.

Players and spectators enjoyed a BBQ meal, drinks and raffles every evening which began at 6:30pm and concluded around 9:30pm.

Sponsors for the event were Michael Morden’s, Fully Promoted, Morphett Vale and Addicted to Chocolate, a new sponsor for 2022.

The Winning Team, Redbacks won ……  $1,200

Second Placed, Comets …………………….  $500

Third Place , Rams …………………………….  $300

The Club is indebted to Bryan Morden and Harvey Jolly who developed the concept, organised each stage of the event and coordinated the involvement of volunteers.

Players, spectators, volunteers and sponsors rated the Challenge highly and will look forward to the 2023 Invitational Triples Challenge at Port Noarlunga Bowling Club, the home of The Gulls.
